road trip

Road trips are very exciting as each moments will amaze you with new sights to see and remember during and after the trip. But one of the major problems that travelers often experience during road trips are lack of preparedness. Some tend to go too excited as they plan out their road trip, eventually forgetting some of the things they need to prepare or bring during the trip.

Lack of preparedness may even lead towards a lot of wasted time, misdirection along the way, and even road accidents. But we’re not really here to scare you if you haven’t prepared well enough. These awful results always lead to a lot of wasted time, energy and, most of all, money. We will just give you the following tips below in order to have a worry-free trip down the long road:

Plan Your Routes

Planning out your routes is not as hard as it is. We now have various apps that can help us track the distance from your current place to your destination. It can even help you find out the amount of minutes or hours that you will consume as you drive towards the destination. But take note that there are multiple possible routes towards your destination, unless it’s some remote place. So be sure to choose the right path as you select a place to pass through when going to your destination.

Lastly, never plan out a route that will require you to sit on your vehicle for the majority of your road trip! It may be a road trip, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay for too long in your car.

Plan the Right Amount of Meal (and its Price!)

You might love to visit diners during the trip. But it’s not necessary for everyone to visit restaurants and diners all the time during the road trip. But if you’re still raring to purchase food, always research for the best meals by asking locals or by searching the web along the way. You can also take a short stop-over at a nearby grocery along the way so then you can purchase cheaper food or extra snacks if there are no good restaurants on the next routes.

You should also be wary that homemade food can give you a satisfying mealtime during the road trip as it can even save you a lot of money. So be sure to prepare something at home that’s suitable for everyone for at least the first day of the trip. Trust us, it will greatly help you save a lot of money so then you can indulge on the best dishes in some restaurant on the following days.

When planning for snacks, some crackers, chips/trail mix or some popcorn will do. Don’t purchase too much sweets and only take sweets if you plan on driving all night long. If you’re really tight on budget, non-perishable or canned foods are perfect choices to bring.

Pack The Right Stuff

Remember to check the weather first before packing the items you need to bring. The weather in the area where you’re visiting can determine the clothes you need to bring. But don’t forget to bring casual clothes all the time as it’s the perfect choice to wear when driving at long distances.

Aside from the numerous snacks that you may want to bring, along with your precious gadget/phone, never forget to bring a first aid kit because this world is just so uncertain when it comes to injuries or other happenings. Bring your prescribed medicine (if you’re taking any) or any other medication for travelers with motion sickness as well.

You should also gather emergency supplies for your vehicle because there may be times where your car may suffer technical difficulties along the way. At least bring some motor oil, radiator fluid, brake fluid, and your handy car tools so then you won’t have to panic and worry when car emergencies arise. For more emergency stuff, flashlights and fire extinguishers can greatly help you out as well.

Bring Extra Cash and Your Credit Card

There will always be times where sudden expenses may occur. You might even want to purchase some souvenir all of a sudden because you might want to remember your road trip some day. So be sure to bring in some extra cash and your credit card just in case. It’s always better to have extra money!

Now that you’re familiar with what you need to completely do before going out on a road trip, here’s a final tip to take note: check your car before you go. Always check your car for any problems and keep it in good condition because a bad car will always mean a worse road trip. Now that you’re all set to go, be sure to make a check list out of these tips and check them if you’re done with all of them. In that way, your road trip will be a smoother one than what most have experienced when they traveled.
